Castles in Lower Silesia

Updated November 2026

Lower Silesia in south-western Poland has more castles and palaces than almost any other region in Europe. For centuries it belonged to Bohemia, Austria and Prussia, and every era left its residences behind.

Książ, the largest castle in Silesia, stands on a rock above a gorge near Wałbrzych. Around Jelenia Góra lies the Valley of Palaces and Gardens with dozens of manor houses, and medieval strongholds such as Bolków and Grodno guard the old routes into the mountains.

PrimeMap lists 1,312 castles and palaces in Lower Silesia. Here are some of the best known.
